Buffalo

The Buffalo Sabres are really on a wild ride. The best in the NHL!

The Buffalo Bills are Terrible. Defense is ok, but offense needs a lot of work!

I do not like fair weather fans! I am not a big Bills fan, as I prefer the Browns. I am however a huge Sabres fan. Had season tickets from the first game ever played in Buffalo. We've had a lot of ups and downs, but the Sabres are still my team. As with all pro teams, they have priced out their everyday fans. People who love the game cannot afford to take their families with them to enjoy it. Pro sports to me have evolved into an elitist group.

Millions spent on mediocre players. Tell me why any pro sports figure is worth 2-5 million a season, for part time work. I'd be living very comfortably if someone gave me 1 million dollars tax free. I could live the rest of my life on this, and still leave money to my kids. Salaries are gross. I would need to work 20 years to make a million and after taxes I'd have maybe 66 thousand if I didn't spend a dime. Where is the justification in this?

Politicians also. Their pay is way out of line with the average constituent. Part time work, full time pay, free medical, staffing, and retirement for life. Are the Pols any better than the working stiff? NO! They just keep better company. No such thing as an ex politician. As soon as they lose an election a job pops up. Wish it was that easy in the real world.

just a few pet peeves on my mind.

It's capitalism at work, my friend.  I think people deserve to get paid whatever amount somebody else values them at.  Pro athletes, while they get paid gross amounts of money, also put a lot of time and effort into practicing their sport and so they are not just 'playing games' as some would like to think.  There are also the obvious drawbacks of a life on the road with not much time for a family and such.  Plus their careers are decidedly shorter than those of us in the real world and once they are through, the average athlete has no applicable skills to fall back on outside the sports arena.

"the average athlete has no applicable skills to fall back on outside the sports arena."

yeah, unless they put their name on the greatest appliance of all time! The George Foreman grille. Oh man, and the Midas commercials. That guy is a triple threat. Magic Johnson? Ehhh not so much.

The pro athlete who can successfully transfer their image to a profitable marketing campaign is an extremely rare breed when you consider the percentage of 'average' players who go through the various leagues and nobody even knows their names.
